Movies.

So, I've recently been going on this kick of watching movies via downloading them from the internetz. The hard part has actually been deciding what to download. This is odd because I know there are so many movies I want to see, but when I'm downloading them, nothing comes to mind. I think it's because I am bad at figuring stuff out on the fly or off the top of my head. Sadly, I am also bad at making lists and knowing what to do in the future. So, in theory, no movies should ever get downloaded but I somehow beat my own odds. Aaaaaaaanyways. Here are some "flicks" I have "caught" and also what I thought about them.

Slumdog Millionare - Yes, I put this first because it features my homeland. In saying this, I am proud to say that it is a rather accurate representation of India (or at least the impoverished areas). I have talked to some people who thought it negatively represented our country, but I think it did it justice. Firstly, I thought this movie was really cool for a few reasons. Number one, the acting was pretty good and I never felt like I was watching some UK brought up teen Indian kid forcing himself to play his character. Number two, I thought the shots were really cool and also liked the idea of the constant flashbacks. Over all, really good movie. Best film? Eh, maybe. I give it a 9/10.

The Wrestler - So, this movie was hard to evaluate for me because I watched half of it one day and then a fourth the next day, and the last fourth a few hours later. This makes it hard to take it all in cohesively as it was meant to be absorbed. Nonetheless, I thought it was pretty good. The acting is SUPERB. I really feel like Mickey Rourke WAS "The Ram". He does such a good job portraying that washed up, emotionally unstable, former celebrity. The movie also does a good job of showing what the world of wrestling is really like which was neat. Evan Rachel Wood is hot. Umm...what else...Marisa Tomei is naked a lot of the film, that was sweet. But, overall, good movie, fantastic acting. I give it an 8.5/10.

Changeling - This movie, I JUST finished watching. Seriously, maybe about 7 minutes ago. It was really quite good. It is exactly what you probably would expect after reading reviews and or plot summaries. I like this movie because it pissed me off...a lot. You know a movie is good when it can evoke a certain emotion towards a character. Don't confuse this anger with the kind you probably felt after seeing the Happening. That anger arose because the movie was the worst film ever written and happened to have the worst acting I've seen in a while. This emotion I am talking about is different. I was MAD at the cops in the movie for being so ignorant and unemotional. It gos to show that the writers and director (Clint Eastwood) did a good job of developing those characters. I felt a little sad when Angelina's character is repeatedly ignored and she can do nothing about it at the beginning. Later, i felt empowered by her fight with the police and legal system. A whole array of emotions. Good stuff. I give it a 9/10.

There are a few more movies, but at the moment I think I'm going to give it a rest. One, because I am tired of typing and two, no one reads this blog. Bye, now.

That's right. two posts in one day cause I'm feeling CraZzZy. Anyways, I went to eat lunch today at the MSC (for non Aggies that is just the memorial student center). When I finished eating, I got on one of the computers that is next to the tables where people eat. Next to me was a student who was in the core of cadets (for non Aggies that is just ROTC on steroids). Anyways, these people are known to uphold the "spirit" of our school and community. Yes, these are the guys in the uniforms who bark at you when you mistakenly walk on the grass outside of the MSC. Oddly enough, this guy next to me managed to say "fuck" at least 12 times while sitting next to a group of elderly women who were there on some sort of visit (at least I think it was a visit because they had nametags). So the first time this guy cusses I figure he just let it slip. I mean, can you blame him? everyone slips out a "fuck" here and there. By about the 6th or so time I was getting really pissed off. Now, don't get me wrong I could care less if you cuss or not when in the right environment. I mean, me and my friends do ever so often. But when you are sitting next to a couple of grandmothers who are obviously quicker to take offense to stuff like that, you can't watch your mouth? Dick. Another peice of striking evidence that needs to be mentioned is that this guy was a JUNIOR. Not a freshmen....a junior. Really?? Grow up and learn when and where you can say "fuck".

So, I am now listening to Have Heart's "Songs to Scream at the Sun". I have had it on my Ipod for maybe a month or two now but just got around to listening to it. Wow. They are fantastic. I always thought I would be slightly less into straight up hardcore after recently going through a kick of more melodic, harmony influenced punk stuff. But, I could not be more WRONG. From the first track to the last, it kept me so invested that I could hardly bring myself to turn it off as my professor was starting class. While hearing them for the first time, one who isn't used to hardcore may be tempted to turn it off or skip through tracks. WARNING: DO NOT EVER DO THIS. I used to do dumb stuff like that. I'm trying to stop. The aestheic that that album creates as a whole is unmatched by any single track or skipping of tracks. I was surprised by how much I like this dude's voice. Go listen to it. Yup, go do it now.
So, I just woke up at 6:50 in the morning to register for classes. This sucked for two main reasons (meaning there were other less important reasons as to why it sucked). Firstly, I just woke up at 6:50 to register for classes. Secondly, I have seriously never had a more confusing time trying to figure out what my schedule would look like. Those of you that remember Myrecord (and that should be everyone because it ruled in comparison) would likely recall the whole colored section student schedule thing that had the times and the classes listed so beautifully. No such thing exists on this new Howdy bullshit. At least not to my knowledge.. Luckily, I was able to register in UNDER 2 MINUTES. Didn't expect that did you??

Anyways, I had a sweet dream last night. It involved an event that I am way excited for. In the end of May Propagandhi is going to be playing in Austin at the Mohawk. Where's the Mohawk? I have no idea. But either way, it is going to be fantastic because for the last maybe 2 months, all I have been listening to is Propagandhi. Sadly, I only recently got into them and sort of missed out on anything before TETA (that will mean nothing to mostly everyone, but to those who know what that is, touche). Even so, I tried to go back and listen to the old stuff but just couldn't get into it. This is weird because I'm usually ok with your typical skate punk or what have you. The new stuff is FANAMAZINGSUPERAWESOMETASTIC. That means generally good. I really am enjoying the newest alum (Supporting Caste) and am amazed that there isn't really any track that I just do not like. Back to the dream though. They just started to get into their last couple of songs. They were just about to play Tertium Non Datur (possibly my second favorite track of the album). Just as they were about to start, Chris (the vocalist), makes the whole band stop so that I (yup, tahts right, ME) could join them on stage to play this song. Due to dreams being super unrealistic and oddly accomodating, I just happened to have a guitar with me and knew the song by heart (which would never truly be the case). All in all, I played and felt like a god. Sadly I woke up this morning to find that my musical talent was not so much a talent but more a hobby. In other words, I still wasn't good. Sweet. Great dream, sucky wake up.
