PROPAGANDHI

So, this past yesterday I was lucky enough to witness some of the most epic music I have ever heard in my life up close and personal. People think that going to concerts like Britney Spears or T-Pain or any other nonsense act is "seeing good live music". No. That sadly is not. I have nothing against people who enjoy music like that. But, people have to understand that it's just not the same with bands in genres like punk, hardcore and even metal. I'll tell you why. In shows like the one I was lucky to see last night, there are so many things that contribute to your experience that shows like Britney and T-Pain are not able to do. When was the last time anyone saw a group of maybe 5 or 6 hundred fans sweating, drenched in beer, not caring the slightest bit about who they have their arm around or who they may run into or whose sweaty hair may be in their mouth? It's unreal to be in a place where you know just how much everyone else around you appreciates the band you are all about to see. It's a great thing. Now I am by no means at all any sort of expert on this scene and I'm not trying to seem that way. I just have to let others know that when you're in the middle of that sweaty sea of people, you feel like nothing in the world can stop you. Work, school, home life...none of it matters. All that you feel is the music and the people around you and that's a cool feeling that I wish everyone can feel.

On to the details:

The sow had 4 bands. The first was a band called Canadian Rifle. The second was Bridge and Tunnel. The third was Trash Talk. And the final band was Propagandhi. A short summary about each follows!

Canadian Rifle: So, I heard this bands stuff via their myspace and was not into it at all. In fact all of us in the room had a nice laugh at how much they would probably suck. I was actually pleasantly surprised. While I may not go back and try to listen to more of their music soon, I do think they are pretty promising. The vocals were gritty and the riffs were cool. While I know almost nothing about drums, Ithe drummer seemed really good. Although they do not directly sound like a band called the O Pioneers, a few parts were remeniscent of them and that was neat.

Bridge and Tunnel: Wow, where to begin? This was a band that I had heard before and didn't love the first time but noticed they started to grow on me as time went on. At first it felt like too much was happenenig and I was having a hard time focusing. I then tried listening to it while falling asleep and that made me realize how it was almost soothing in a sense. The vocals are done by a guy and a girl which is a really nice mix. They both pull their stuff of really well live. Everything just seemed to make sense when they played. I am most definetley going to try to get into that band.

Trash Talk: What I am about to say is not an exaggeration. Trash Talk may have possibly been one of the worst bands I had ever seen or heard in all of my almost 20 years of existence. In fact, I'm not sure they ever played a song. Everything seemed to be odd meshes of sounds put together in about 20 seconds. At some point the singer bashed the mic into his head and was bleeding. Later he pecked the bassist on the lips. I have no idea what words to use to decribe the horrid sounds this band made. Check out their myspace and see for youself.

Propagandhi: GREATEST SHOW OF MY LIFE. I have never been more excited to see a band play than I was yesternight. All the people, all of the drunken slurs among us, everything was right on point. I never was able to get into older Propagandhi. They used to sound like NOFX. I can't say that I am a huge fan of NOFX. Along the way something happened and they became and epic dramatic speed metal thrash punk band. They are pure awesome. Seeing a bunch of almost 40 year olds on stage doing what they do is way cool. Their music is so technical yet so much fun to hear. They have perfected the writing of the types of songs they play. They ended with Purina Hall of Fame off of TETA. Perfect ending as always. I probably will not see them ever agin and If I do somehow get to it will not be for a longggggggggg time.

All in all, great weekend, great show, great time. Bye, now.
